Sevens Project is an exciting new ensemble from the Montreal based creative production house, Moondata Productions.

At the core of Sevens Project are Moondata’s own Matt Lederman, Ryhna Thompson and Peter X, with 2007 Polaris Prize winner Patrick Watson and Stefan Schneider of Bell Orchestre. The diversity of the songs is tied together by the visionary production of Vid Cousins, while the dynamic mixing skills of Amon Tobin add new depth to the compositions.

The album features additional musical contributions from a cross-section of the Montreal musical community including Jace Lasek and Olga Goreas of The Besnard Lakes; Eric San (a.k.a. Kid Koala); Pietro Amato of Torngat, as well as Canadian pianist and composer Joshua Rager.

Dark yet inviting, Sevens Project is a bold conceptual work that points in the direction where rock and experimental music walk hand in hand.

Drawing from the talents of five different songwriters, the album is a unique and powerful collaboration that incorporates compositional influences from the new avant-garde, tape loops and phasing music, and cinematic sound-tracks with the drive, energy and passion of a rock band. Sevens Project has produced an organic sounding record that defies simple categorization.

The warmth of acoustic guitars, lush string ensembles, horn sections, vocal choirs and a Dixieland band are processed with the sonic edge and precision of studio manipulation. Thundering drums, jarring electronics and earsplitting guitars provide the backdrop for gorgeous arrangements and ambient treatments and playful orchestration.

Track Name: Static
STATIC

VERSE1:
Well I woke up in the morning just to see the city lights
I went down by the river to be clear of all the city's sights
cause it don't get so much better
and it ain't getting me close home
i'm running back now

VERSE 2:
so i jumped into the river to be clean of all the night
to keep that dog from running, that just never ends when you are young
and you are getting tired
and you just want to sit a while
so you can smile into the sun

CHORUS:
and it sings ahhhhhhhhh
can't you feel that i am closer to you
and all the ahhhhhhhhh
static noise will sing to you

VERSE 3:
it's pathday on a bargain just to see if i could breathe
99 cents to love and 99 cents just to be
it ain't getting any better
and it ain't getting any closer
if you ask me

CHORUS2:
and I saw…..
abandoned everything that meant something to me
and i'm so sorry
that i left the things that meant so much to me

BRIDGE

CHORUS3:
is it just a little too late
to get back all those things I gave away
oh, what am i supposed to do
i packed my bags I ain't coming home to you

VERSE 4:
abandoned all my jewels
abandoned all the things I knew
the search for such a pretty world
that probably looks like you
and it didn't get any better
and it didn't get any worse
it just came out to the same old song
Track Name: Haleiya
HALEIYA

Do what you can when you’re down
Put your face against the ground
Take what you want from what I am
There’s nothing I can do anymore
Push your feet through the ground
Do what you can when you’ve fallen by
Anyway to see your hand
Track Name: Hope
HOPE

A woman waits with her bones hung dry
A bitter taste is looking for the sweetest smell
Time for her to put on her face as well

As she smudges her smile on her face
Well past all the borders of good taste
Warm bright colours on her cheeks,
“I do”
Blushing all the memories of you

She waits for you
That’s what hope is hanging on to
She waits for you
That’s what hope has been hanging to

A woman waits with her hands on her mouth
Kissing all the warmth that she used to touch
Tasting all the memories from her fingertips
‘Cause she’s still missing you
She is still missing you

She waits for you
That’s what hope’s been hanging to
She waits for you
That’s what hope has been hanging to

Opens her arms and wraps her woolen eyes around
The distance
And comforts all the empty space
